Nigel’s Cellar has grown out of my love of wine. This started from a very early age by being allowed a small sherry glass of wine at Sunday lunch. This was followed by discussion about the wine and the country it was from and I was hooked! A deep enthusiasm for both enjoying wine and discovering more about it was born.
With leaving farming and changing career to running The Tufton Arms Hotel, a fishing hotel on the River Eden in Cumbria in my late twenties, my exposure and hence opportunities to pursue my love of wine went exponential. A chance meeting fishing in the far North of Scotland with a fellow hotelier led to fishing and wine tasting with what have become a wonderful group of friends. We have an MW, a leading sommelier and wonderful private collectors. Their company and generosity led to exposure to wines and spirits that I could only read about back on the farm!
This has all led to the present day position where I have a shop in the hotel with towards a 1000 different wines and spirits in it. Complemented with an online shop with around 500 different offerings at present. Online specialises in rare wines and spirits for birthdays and special occasions. The shop has a diverse array of wines and spirits from everywhere. I am not bound by having to take wines each year as the vintage changes, so my wines are usually mature and ready to go. There are lots of old vintages of everything!!
In both outlets the same pricing rules are followed. I find the cheapest price online in the UK and I better it!! I cannot guarantee to always be the cheapest but I will be when it is put out for sale in the shop or online.
Buying Wines
As a function of continously searching for stock, I am able to source wines and spirits at the same time for private customers and friends at advantageous prices. I offer both a service for finding specific wines and for investing in and filling up a cellar.
You can specify your aims and objectives and I will do the rest always at below market value including my finders fee!! Do contact me to discuss how I can help you.
Selling Wines
If you have wines to sell with good provenance that will enhance what I am offering and the range of my site, I will list them for you and sell them for a commission.
If you are happy to package the wines when they sell or they are in bond they need not move, otherwise the wines would need to be in my cellars.

I am always happy to value and advise on your own cellar.
