Lovely old wine, perfect for a 50th celebration! I have quite a few so do make an offer on multiples!!!

Right bank Bordeaux: This was the most overtly left-bank out of all the wines tonight, in fact I was certain that this was a ringer. Quite green on both the nose and the palate, but plenty of life despite its age. Quality of fruit wasn’t as vibrant as in top vintages so guessed this to be from a weaker year like 94.

Bordeaux Right Bank 70s to 2000s: Clear garnet with just marginal bricking towards the rim. Some sous bois and a bit of dark fruit, “steely” and still with nice supporting structure, almost left “bankish”. Tasted younger than the 82 SHL. Guessed correctly as my own wine 75 Pavie.

I had no expectations for this bottle of 1975 Chateau Pavie, mainly because of the age. I decanted it to remove as much sediment as possible. The cork was old, but I managed to remove it without too much trouble. To my surprise, it had the characteristic smell of St. Emilions, a pleasant smell. The color is purple to brown. On the palate, you can discern the ripe fruit. The tannins are quite present, especially for the age of this wine. It was a nice experience, the wine is ready to drink, but my second bottle can wait a few more years.

Started with funky nose which then left. Mature fruit hiding behind the initial mineral/oxidized impression. Very long finish and developing richness in the mouth. Color remained deep and intense.

Excellent! Deep garnet with brick coloured rim. Complex and intense nose, great on the palate, medium body, very well balanced. The finish is just awesome, very long. It really doesn’t appear to be that old. This is mature and ready to drink now, but there is no hurry here.
