2010 Francois Cotat Sancerre Les Caillottes, Loire, France

£105.00

A legendary Sancerre that is designed to age in a very good vintage. This is unfiltered so there are little bits of white grape skin in the wine!!!

Description

This is well regarded by the critics with a 17 from JR! I have had this bottle for a little bit but lacked the understanding to sell it!! Especially the unfiltered nature of it. But a great and noted Sommelier  friend brought a 2011 to my tasting on Sunday night and served it blind. We had no reference to go on and I had never encountered anything quite like it. One friend covered himself in glory with old sauvignon and then Sancerre but the rest of us including a master of wine were no where! This is more highly rated than the 2011 vintage (15.5 JR) and the following tasting notes for the 2011 are spot on!! This is a fascinating and extraordinary wine to take to a tasting, that will create much debate

Pleasure to come back to one of my favourite Sancerre producers and celebrate first day of spring. Caillottes means “little stones” depicting its rocky limestone soil. Required more than an hour to open up.Pale lemon colour. Medium intensity aroma of gunflint, chalk, lemons, jasmine, acacia, faint notes of gooseberries and grassy touch. Medium+ body, silky, rich and vibrant, great energy with citrusy and mineral flavours, salty and flinty, soft but lively high acidity, saline, flinty and touch floral finish.
