Many many years ago, I was not a fan of 1976 as a vintage, as it almost always suffered in comparison to those preceeding and following (the days of $20 1970’s!). The opportunity to purchase well cellared examples at the right price came along, and here we are. Cordier wines were made with a rustic touch at the time, and this shows in the well preserved nature of this bottle. Dark scarlet red in colour and initially damp earth and autumn leaves. With air cedar, blackcurrant and iron with powdery tannins. Day 2 and there’s some in the decanter and it is even better, as some cassis and tomato leaf has shown itself. Not great, but fun. One left.
