Working my way through a full case of this pretty quickly. With one exception (a dusty bottle with mild acrolein taint), all bottles are in perfect shape, a lovely and lively mature Saint-Julien, harmonious and elegant, silky texture, nicely generous for a 1996 (it shows its Poyferré pedigree), flowers, spices and gravel, good length. This is a particularly fine bottle, just a bit on the light side, but in the context of the vintage and taking its age into account, I have no doubt about my score!
Second bottle from a full case purchased at auction recently. From an old German cellar. Pristine condition, level into neck. In remarkably fine shape, fresh and energetic, gravel and cedar, relatively slender but still with a good stuffing of fruit and spice, elegant and lively, good length. Perfect luncheon claret, Michael Broadbent would have opined, youthful for what it is. Holds up
