3 Great bottles from this vineyard famous for leading the way at the turn of the century. Achaval Ferrer was founded by a group of Argentinian and Italian friends who loved wine and were determined to produce something outstanding – an aim encouraged by celebrated Italian oenologist Roberto Cipresso, one of the founding team. A slice of history, this Malbec based Bordeaux blend is still knocking it out the park. I have more of this if required!!

Description

The Quimera is the pinnacle from Achaval Ferrer and is a Malbec-dominant, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot blend, with the proportions changing dependent on vintage.

Deep garnet in color with a slightly bricking/red edge. Nose of cherries, crushed blackberry, and hints of dark chocolate and leather. Tastes of dark cherries, blackberry, tobacco, and moca. Nice purity of fruit. Fully resolved tannins. Well balanced with slightly pronounced acidity. At its prime. Drink over the next 3-4 years.

Still drinking nicely. Some earthiness on the nose. Bright acidity, deep color. More fruit would have made it more enjoyable I think. Past prime but still good
