Bottle in brilliant shape. Cork near perfect for a bottle this age. Mature nose, with wood notes and wine tenants. Full flavour very smooth, and just so different from a fully mature Barossa shiraz. Plum, blackcurrant and vanilla oak, alongside rich tannins. Drinking wonderfully.

‘Black Rain’ Saturday Lunch (Casa Sophia Loren, The Heritage Woo Cheong Pawn Shop, 60-66 Johnston Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong): Shared contemplatively by three of us over lunch, which brightened up an otherwise very wet and gray Saturday.

2-hour decant. Very heavy sediment but mainly stuck to the shoulders, as it should be. Dense and opaque purple-red with a very slightly watery meniscus. Oaky and warm spices nose, hints of Christmas stollen cake. Palate is slightly young, tart fruit and clearly still only halfway through its maturity journey. Lovely spicy, mouth coating fruit emerges with food and more time in the glass. Very heart-warming. Good length. 91-92. Thanks, Daniel!
