Classic Barbe Rac from a good vintage designed to age. Producer tasting notes: (1996 vintage) “Appearance: intense garnet. Nose: herbacy, spices (liquorice), chocolate, fruits (strawberry). Description

Vineyard Notes
Quaternary terrace with a surface of shingles coming from the former bed of the Rhône. The parcel producing this single vineyard has a complex and various geological composition. Vines are 90 years old and 100% Grenache
Harvest Notes
The grapes are carefully selected during the harvest. This sorting is compulsory and allows the selection of the best bunches of grapes.
Winemaking
Grenache, being sensitive to oxidation, vinifications are made in concrete tanks. Fermenting lasts about 3 weeks (which allows a polymerization of tannins)with a temperature which varies between 30 and 33°C. Only the free-run wine is used in this single vineyard.
Ageing
In vats for around 16 months.

Much better than I expected.

I anticipated a tired wine but instead I got an elegant, sophisticated Cndp.

It was lighter than my preferred style but nevertheless it was enjoyable.

Medium bodied, good fruit, understated terroir.
